Potential Building Collapse: Lagos State Government Orders Evacuation Of Police Barracks

The Lagos State Government has ordered evacuation of residents over the potential collapse of a building at Police Barracks, Mopol 20 Barracks, Onigbongbo, in Ikeja.

The state’s Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has announced plans to initiate an emergency evacuation of the old block 3 section of the barracks.

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that a recent assessment of the structure by the agency’s response team indicated a dangerous state of disrepair.

The decision to evacuate both the building and adjacent structures was made to prevent any loss of life or property.

In a statement, Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the agency’s response plan includes a comprehensive assessment, safe and orderly evacuation, and controlled demolition.

He emphasized that the evacuation is a precautionary measure to address the building’s precarious condition and mitigate potential risks.

The Permanent Secretary urged residents in the vicinity to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation online.

He assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored and managed by the Lagos State Government.
