Police Quashes Security Threat Over Suspected Northerners In Ibeju-Lekki

The police in Lagos has cleared the air following a call by residents who sought for identification of some northerners who were spotted in Ibeju-Lekki area.
The residents, reacted to a viral video showing the northerners, 89 in number, opining that the incident pose security threat, generating concern for the inhabitants in the state.
However, the state police command has disclosed that the individuals, made their way from Katsina state, northern Nigeria, for employment at Dangote Refinery and pose no security threat.
Spokesperson to the security agency, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the incoming persons were summoned to work as labourers at the refinery.
Hundeyin said that the individuals were thoroughly searched and no incriminating item was found on them. He added, “A contractor working with the refinery appeared before the police and confirmed that he had personally sourced and brought the labourers from Katsina for legitimate employment purposes. His statement was corroborated by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the refinery, who also affirmed that the labourers were verified and cleared for entry into the facility and would be residing in the facility.
“The individuals were thoroughly searched, and no incriminating items were found in their possession. Furthermore, each person properly identified themselves and presented their National Identification Numbers, NIN, which were duly verified.”
The policeman urged Lagosians to embark on their daily activities as the security agency remains keen in ensuring protection of lives and properties in the state.
