The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned one Umaru Abdul at the Yaba Magistates’ Court for impersonating as a military officer.
Umar was dragged before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka on three counts of conspiracy to impersonate, forgery of an official identification card, and impersonation by pretending to be a military personnel.
The Police stated that on January 11, 2024, the accused pretended to be a member of the Nigerian Army by unlawfully wearing a Nigerian Army camouflage uniform and holding an identity card bearing the distinctive emblem of the Nigerian Army with the name tag “Umar Abdul” and a corporal rank.
Police Prosecutor, DSP, Thomas Nurudeen, who stated that Umar was arrested in the Ijegun area of Lagos contravened Sections 411, 79(1)(a) and (b), and 78(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant’s uniform and fake identification card were admitted into evidence.
He pleaded guilty to the three charges levelled against him.
Magistrate Nwaka ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody until April 17, 2024, for sentencing.
