Police Arraign Quartet Over N1.6m Fraud

Four suspects are on trial for allegedly stealing the sum of N1,600,000 through fraudulent acts.

The Lagos State Police Command arraigned the suspects: Zainab Abdulahi, 26, Sulaimon Abdulatif, 24, Olanrewaju Mariam, 25 and Yehuza Jubril, 23, at the Badagry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on a three-count charge of felony, stealing and fraud.

The Command also stated that the gang commited the offence between January and July 2024 at a Low Cost Housing Estate in Badagry.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court, “The defendants conspired among themselves to obtain money under false pretence.

“They obtained N1,600,000 from one Abdul-Salam Idris, the complainant, under the pretence of taking him to Manchester City Football Club in England to play football, knowing full well that they were not agents to any club.

“The defendants converted the money to their use.

“The offences contravene Sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” Ekpo informed.

The suspects pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Layeni proceeded saying that each of the sureties must be a company director.

He also ordered that each of the sureties must deposit N25,000 to the Chief Registrar of the court

The matter was adjourned till August 15.
