The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned one Chiagozie Chukwu for allegely stealing a Ford SUV and being in possession of suspected hard drugs.
Chukwu was arrainged before Magistrate Olatunde Adefope at the Yaba Magistrate Court on three charges bordering on theft and possession of stolen property.
Prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, told the Magistate that on April 9, 2024 at about 4pm, a call was made to the police reporting that two vehicles parked near the CONOIL Petrol Station and Sterling Bank along the Apapa-Oshodi Highway in Lagos were stolen.
According to the prosecutor, the police operatives responded to the report and successfully intercepted one of the vehicles. The other escaped.
The police searched the vehicle and found harmful substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Chukwu, arrested with the vehicle was questioned. He claimed he received the hard substances from one Ebubechukwu in the Republic of Benin. The investigation further confirmed that the recovered SUV Ford was a property belonging to one simply identified as John.
Magaji presented a confession statement written by Chukwu and witness testimonies from the CONOIL Petrol Station security guards as evidence for the offences. He said the alleged offences violate Sections 412, 168(1)(2), and 329(a)(c) of the Lagos State Criminal Law (2015).
Magistate Adefope ruled that the suspect remain in police custody. The case is to resume in court on May 3.
