Police Arraign Female Suspect Over N9M Visa Fraud

The police in Lagos have arraigned a woman, Adenike Taiwo, for allegedly defrauding a visa seeker to the tune of N9 million.
Taiwo was said to have collected the sum from the complainant, Mariam Ajibola, in a promise to secure visa for her to travel to Turkey and Luxembourg.
However, the prosecutor, Adegeshin Famuyiwa, at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, where Taiwo was arraigned, said that the arrangement between the duo didn’t go as agreed.
Famuyiwa, who disclosed that the defendant is facing a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretences and fraud, added that the offences were committed on May 14 at No 8, Sango Sanya Street in Agric area of Ikorodu.
The Prosecutor said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use and absconded while efforts made by the complainant to get back the money or the visas proved abortive.
Famuyiwa said that the offences contravened Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with a surety who must provide evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The matter is to be revisited on September 4.
