Police Arraign 27-Year-Old Suspect Over N4.5M Theft

The Police have arraigned one Peter Oke in court over accusations of theft.
During Oke’s trial at the Badagry Magistrates’ Court on Friday, Police Prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, said that the suspect is facing a one-count charge of stealing as imposed against him by the security agency.
Ekpo told the court that the defendant, on September 5, defrauded one David Unuigbe, the complainant, the sum of N4,500,000, out of the sales capital placed under his supervision at a firm, Mega Mart Mall Limited, in Mowo area of Badagry.
The Prosecutor mentioned that the complainant reported the case to the police, after which the defendant was arrested over the alleged offence which contravened the provisions of Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Oke, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Nurudeen Layeni, who stood as the Presiding Magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the like sum.
Layeni said one of the sureties must be a community leader, who must deposit N50,000 in the court’s Chief Registrar’s account.
He adjourned the case till October 10.
