The chairperson of the Association of Professional Wedding Engagement Coordinators of Nigeria (APWECON) otherwise known as Alaga Ijoko and Alaga inaro in Yoruba parlance, Ejigbo branch, Mrs Olawunmi Osunkoya, has claimed that they work with disc jockeys.

According to her, though they are both entertainers, their jobs are parallel and could not be substituted for each other.

She explained that event coordinators are still relevant during social functions just as the DJ and o musicians.

However, she revealed that the inability of some event coordinators to work within the time frame given to them has been a major challenge.

She noted that not keeping to time sometimes causes a rift between the event coordinators and the DJs, which event organisers frown at, making some event coordinators lose patronage.

The entertainer disclosed this while speaking to ECHONEWS as she talked about how their profession embraces all Nigerian cultures, making it easy for them to deal with people of diverse nationalities.

According to her, every engagement coordinator must ensure absolute deliverance of arts and culture in whatever event they find themselves.

She noted that entertainers and event social event coordinators play significant roles in uniting people from different ethnic backgrounds with their skilful and liberal presentation of various cultures.

“For every event we attend, we ensure that we dress in the culture of the person that hired us, be it Yoruba, Igbo, Delta, Edo or Hausa culture, etc. And we deliver aesthetic works of art that are to their culture. We engage in the three recognised religions as our work is not religious because we know the basics of every religion which aid us in carrying out our duties excellently.

Urging all members to adhere strictly to assigned time at any event, she emphasised that event coordinators can only pass the right message on time without making their audience bored and which is by rounding up in time before other guests begin to budge them to finish up.
