OSHODI-ISOLO: RESIDENTS WELCOME SANWO-OLU WITH DEMANDS

By Our Reporters

Residents of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area have kicked off a romance with the new governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu by welcoming him with a charter of demands.

In a vox-pop  which took the reporters of the Echonews Newspapers to the nooks and crannies of the district, residents said they were happy that a young and vibrant governor who looks accessible is on the seat of government at the secretariat, Alausa.

The residents contributed 39,945 votes to the 739,445 votes that catapulted the ruling All Progressives Congress governorship candidate to victory coming slightly eighth in the list of 10 high voting LGAS in the governorship polls. Oshodi-Isolo was elbowed to the eighth position by Surulere LGA which polled 39, 986 votes, just 41 votes ahead.

But party activists in Oshodi –Isolo claimed their victory was stronger than Surulere as APC reversed the PDP’s gains in 2015 by returning all candidates to the party while APC in Surulere lost one to the PDP.

The case for the governor’s interest in the area is also driven by its location on the Apapa-Oshodi- Airport highway and as the main corridor for getting to the Alimosho hinterland.

Highlights of the demands include:

– Upgrading of Ashamu Police Station to a Divisional Police Station;

– Upgrading of Bucknor Health Centre.

– Renovation of dilapidated Low Cost Primary School, Jakande, Oke Afa.

Gov. Sanwo-Olu needs to look into the issue of road networks in Isolo. Though there are some standard roads in the community, the Isolo-Mushin Road needs to be expanded. The road is one of the busiest roads in this axis, of course, it’s a state road. All-day, it’s always plagued with static traffic gridlock. Navigating via this road from Pako to Iyana-isolo is a nightmare for everyone and the deteriorating portions of the road are worsening the situation. We want the governor-elect to earmark Isolo-Mushin Road for immediate expansion, making it one of the projects to execute as soon as possible.

For us in Oshodi-Isolo constituency II, we enjoy our new governor to help with the following: adequate provision of bus shuttles for all the government primary and secondary schools. We also need infrastructural development, establishments of ICT hubs and Development Centers across the LCDAs under Federal Constituency I and II; youth empowerment, access to Lagos State Empowerment Trust Fund (LSETF) and other financial service providers in the state and good healthcare delivery – Free Emergency Mobile Buses.

……..Ayanbajo Ibidapo, Convener for EducationforAll Organization, Ejigbo LCDA.

I would want our governor to organise training and empowerment programmes for the people in our constituencies in order to make them productive to the community. I also want our governor to help us in the aspect of roads and electricity.

……… Mr. Segun Olatunde, Secretary Isolo CDC.

We are optimistic of good governance by our new governor. Specifically, we want him to remember the aged ones in our constituency; he should come up with some programmes to do the needful for them.

……… Alhaji Fatai Abisiga, CDC Chairman, Isolo.

The state of our roads needs attention. Though the chairman is trying, we want the governor to help him, easing the traffic situation of Jakande Estate area towards Mushin and Oshodi as well as Ejigbo and Ikotun; fixing of street lights in all the major bus stops and roads linking each other within the Estate; special attention on the cows menace in the Estate, getting rid of the situation for us through the ministry concerned and remembering the youths positively and assisting us.

………… Wasiu Lasisi, Ejigbo resident.

OOSAA CDA will like the governor to do the following for us in our area:  construction of the link roads and drainages in our community to be constructed; proper rehabilitation of a walkway from Adebayo to Ajenifuja; employment opportunity, skill acquisition for our youths and poverty alleviation for widows; rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools with support for students; public water for the community and new health center facility.

Sir, we demand and wish to be considered as part and parcel of your team in areas of political appointment including other dividends of democracy, while assuring you of our continued support and prayers for a successful tenure.

——- Comrade Annibest James, South South APC lsolo.

There is nothing much expected from our governor, we only want him to give us financial/material assistance on our roads. We also seek his support for street lightening of the Estate.

——– Adeyemi A.Yusuff, Chairman Estate Youths Pacesetter, Jakande Estate, Ejigbo.

We want restructuring of our community stadium for the promotion of sports in Oshodi-Isolo constituency II.

…………. Sheu Abdullahi

My name is kayode Samson, I live at No7, Arochukwu Street off NNPC bus stop Ilamoshe Ejigbo Lagos. My requests from our elected governor are: 1. Youth empowerment in our constituency, providing jobs or empowering the ones who are into various skills, such as giving out sewing machines to the ones into tailoring to reduce unemployment rate in the area. 2. Basic amenities such as good roads and good drainage system for free flow of erosion in our community.

I will like Gov. Sanwo-Olu to work on the rate at which area boys and hoodlums are disturbing the community. Majority of roads in Oshodi are bad, cleaning of the canal to safe the community from flood.

………… Rotimi Adewusi from Oshodi.

First of all, we want our new governor to make sure he complete those projects that his predecessor could not complete such as the Oshodi Terminal project. We need more security in Oshodi. We also need government’s intervention on some roads in Oshodi especially Mafoloku, some streets are prone to flood, the governor should visit those areas and find solution to the problems.

………… Amidu Arije, Mafoloku Oshodi resident.
