Oshodi-Isolo Local Government has directed the executive members of the Nigerian Union of Tailors (NUT), Charity Orile Oshodi Zone to submit the list of its members for empowerment programme.
The government also demanded for the list of other artisans to be included in the data of the local government.
The union had visited the Head of Agriculture Department of the council, seeking recognition of the body and requesting for empowerment.
The union said most of their graduated apprentices find it difficult to establish and start on their own, asking the government to create an empowerment fund for them.
The Charity-Orile Oshodi NUT branch Chairman, Mr. Akeem Adekunle told ECHONEWS that a list of 28 members has been submitted to the Agric department as requested and that they were waiting for the support from the government in form of fund or equipment.
A member, Mr. Sunday Teno said if done, the empowerment would help their members especially those who just completed learning the vocation but do not have the wherewithal to start the business.
He noted that the support would be a stat up fund or equipment for many of them.
“Although we have been told at the Agric department that nothing yet for now because COVID-19 has affected every programme but they promised that they would get to us with the list submitted when the programme commences.”
He said the government recognition of the union and support would further give the union a sense of belonging.
