One Hour a Day Can Change Your Life: Masterminds Community Foundation Inspires Teens to Read
The Masterminds Community Foundation has marked this year’s International Women’s Day by encouraging secondary school students in Lagos to develop a culture of reading and personal development.
The foundation celebrated the day with students from Obanikoro Baptist High School, Lagos State Senior High School, and Wasimi Community Senior High School.
The outreach aimed to promote reading culture, emotional intelligence and personal growth among teenagers.
The initiative builds on the Foundation’s Emotional and Social Intelligence Awareness Campaign conducted last year, which focused on equipping teenagers with the mindset and social skills needed to thrive in school, career and life.
Founder of the foundation, Vivian Oghene, encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of daily reading.
“Reading an hour a day is only four per cent of your day — and that four per cent can put you at the top of your game, ahead of everyone else in 10 years,” she said.
According to her, small and consistent habits such as daily reading can produce extraordinary long-term results.
To support teenagers in building good habits, confidence and a growth mindset, the Foundation donated several motivational books, including:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey
Gifted Hands and Think Big by Ben Carson
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. KiyosakiThe Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale
As part of the initiative, the Foundation also launched the Virtual Masterminds Teens Community, an online platform designed to keep teenagers engaged beyond the one-day event.
Through the platform, students are encouraged to dedicate at least one hour daily to reading, participate in discussions and engage in activities that foster emotional intelligence, leadership and personal development.
The visit aligns with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give To Gain,” which highlights the importance of investing in young people to create long-term societal impact.
By empowering teenagers with knowledge, guidance and a love for learning, the Masterminds Community Foundation said it remains committed to inspiring young people to dream big, grow every day and become responsible future leaders.
