Olufemi Abioye Reveals How Tech Can Be Beneficial To Sports

The Chief Task Assigned of Dekaizen Worldwide Limited, Olufemi Abioye has revealed the benefits of Technology to Sports in Nigeria.

Speaking to ECHONEWS exclusively, Abioye disclosed that there are many ways that tech can enhance the Nigeria sports industry which he highlights the success seen.

The convener of Sports Meet Tech added, the OTT model had given Nigeria sports the opportunity to distribute contents across wider boundaries and eliminating high production costs.

“There are many ways that tech is enhancing the sports industry. Sport creates some of the greatest human achievements and holds such an inspiring emotional connection for fans and business around the world and these opportunities fall into the following categories. From Paper to digital, from guessing to insights, from passive to active monitoring, from cash to online and virtual payments,” Abioye told ECHONEWS exclusively.

“The growth of digital technologies has changed the traditional television model worldwide, allowing content creators to reach consumers directly on their smart TVs, computers, and mobile phones. The OTT model offers Nigerian sports the opportunity to distribute content across wider boundaries while eliminating high production costs and the ‘pay to screen’ model of traditional TV broadcasters.

“Video cameras have become a crucial development in coaching, providing coaches with a way to capture and analyze sport performance. Electronic timing, controlled by computers, is employed to measure athlete performance times in various sports, including athletics.

Lastly competition in form of eSports and gaming across geographical locations and platform are also becoming popular and allowing people to learn and compete virtually against friends, family and groups.”

Abioye stated, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have greatly helped clubs to track the performances of athletes and the digitalization in the sports industry have grown the revenue of sports worldwide.

“The various ecosystem of sports that can be digitalized can benefit from enhanced commercialization of sports, for example the growth of gaming and betting platform enables punters to interact with different games, sequences and seeamlesly winners are announced and winnings are deposited in winners bank account. Secondly with advanced of Arttifical Intelligence (AI) athletes and thier clubs are making more returns negotiating contracts based on performances index curated in the seasons and also lots of streaming platforms are unlocking more returns from pay per view streaming and broadcasting of unique competitive events which have also change how sponsorship are now contracted.

“Digitalisation have greatly grew the global sport industry to an estimated $11.7 Billion in 2020 and forecast to reach $36.20 Billion in 2028 while The Sports Analytics Market was valued at $1.05 billion in 2020 and expected to reach $5.11 billion by 2026. We strongly need to leverage technological advances known globally to improve the commercial opportunities in Nigeria sports following the re categorization of sports by the federal Government from recreation to Business.”
