Olu-Epe Promises Cultural Revival as Festival Begins with Grandeur

The historic Epe Kayokayo 2024 festival commence with a flourish as the palace of the Olu-Epe of Epe kingdom, Oba Dr. Shefiu Adewale Bamgbopa Eshilokun I, welcomed members of the press for a grand opening press conference.

In his address, Olu-Epe praised the Almighty for the previous year’s peaceful and successful festivities, emphasizing the deep historical roots of the festival. “This tradition, handed down from our forebears, is a treasure we cherish. Plans are underway to uncover more historical perspectives behind this festival, even if it means venturing beyond Lagos,” he revealed.

“We will select representatives, including myself, to trace the origins of this festival. Under the stewardship of Otunba TJ, the finances are in place to embark on this journey,” he added with conviction.

Answering questions from the press, Olu-Epe assured all guests of a grand feast despite the country’s socioeconomic challenges. “The major hurdle has always been financing, but I am pleased to announce that the funds are secured to celebrate in grand style,” he affirmed.

High Chief Kadri Odedeogboro, the Balogun of Epe Kingdom, and High Chief Shobaloju, the Sarumi of Epe Kingdom, called for more transformative programs, while also acknowledging the commendable efforts of TJ Abass. “The transformative initiatives brought forward by TJ Abass have been nothing short of remarkable,” noted Chief Odedeogboro.

Hon. Yusuff (Presi) echoed the Olu-Epe’s sentiments, highlighting the festival’s innovations and changes. “This year, we are introducing a female novelty match and proposing the King Kosoko Embankment/Conference Center and Kayokayo Village, projected to be completed in five years. The Lagos State Government has been a pillar of support, providing funds, security, traffic management, and street illumination through various agencies,” he said.

Comrade Giwa Murtala Moore, SSA to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu on Vocational and Technical Education and President of the Epe Youth Forum, shared his vision for the Youth Rally. “We aim to sensitize youths on drug abuse, vocational and technical skills development, and to rally support for the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria against protests of rage. We have informed top security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all participants,” he assured.
