The Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo has promised to support the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) in its mission to promote consumer rights and protect the public from hazardous and substandard products.

The council chairman made this pledge on Thursday when he received the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo Esq., and other senior officials of the agency in his office.

According to Solebo, the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration with the council in the agency’s efforts to protect consumer rights, ensure value-for-money, satisfaction, and shield the public from unsafe products.

Solebo explained that the agency plans to bring its services closer to residents in Isolo and its environs, hence the need for the visit.

He noted, “Our paramount purpose of coming here is to see how we can be well-grounded here because the law says we should be in all LGAs so that we can bring LASCOPA closer to the people. Many consumers in Isolo may find it difficult to travel to our central office to lodge complaints about products or services involving amounts as small as N20,000 or N30,000. These individuals may feel discouraged or resigned to their fate, which could embolden perpetrators to continue violating consumer rights. This is why we need a local office in this area.”

Solebo further outlined that LASCOPA’s mandate covers businesses in both the formal and informal sectors, with a core focus on ensuring consumer satisfaction.

In response, Olasoju expressed appreciation for the agency’s initiative to extend its reach to grassroots communities assuring the delegation that a suitable space would be allocated within the council secretariat.

“Having an office within our council area is a development we are glad to help realize and you can be assured of our support. Your operations borders on safety of our residents as well as their satisfaction as consumers of goods and services. Beyond accommodating your agency, we will spread words about your presence in Isolo to our people at our regular communal meetings. Your mandate aligns perfectly with our mission and vision of having a community that works for all which consumers’ utmost satisfaction is part of,” Olasoju said.

The council boss appealed to Solebo to consider job opportunities for residents of Isolo in the agency, a plea the general manager promised to give serious considertion.
