Ojodu LCDA organized the “Nurture Our Future” Tree Planting Programme in 2024 at Ojodu Primary School to promote environmental sustainability. Various stakeholders including students, Council Members, Councillors, and leaders participated actively. The Chairman, Mr. David Olusegun Odunmbaku, represented by Mr. Olaide John Bello, highlighted the importance of planting trees in preserving the environment and securing the planet’s future. Mr. Bello stressed that tree planting helps in forest restoration, fighting deforestation, and creating a sustainable future for future generations.
The Hon Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, represented by Mrs Bamigbaye from Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPARK), encouraged all residents of Lagos to plant a tree in their lifetime, nurture it, and teach their children about environmental stewardship.
Sanitarian Falana from the Department of Environment and Sanitation in Ojodu LCDA explained the environmental benefits of tree planting, while Mr. Olawale Abdulsalam, the Supervisor for Environment, highlighted how trees can improve air quality, provide habitats for wildlife, and maintain ecological balance.
Pastor Segun Fayemi, the CDC Chairman, suggested a unique approach to sustaining tree planting efforts by assigning trees to individual classrooms and motivating students to care for them by offering cash rewards to the most successful class. This strategy aims to instill a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship in young students.
The Oba of Aguda, Kabiyesi Agbaosi, called on sanitation officials to enforce hygiene practices, especially during the rainy season, to prevent environmental degradation and health risks.
The tree planting event saw active participation from Executive Council Members, the Management Team, Councillors, and eager students from Ojodu Primary School. This event not only emphasized the importance of environmental conservation but also showcased the impact of community involvement in fostering a sustainable future.
