Ogudu–Ifako Bridge Repairs to Resume September 3
By Daniji Emmanuel
The Lagos State Government has confirmed that the second phase of rehabilitation work on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area (inbound Island) will recommence on Wednesday, September 3 2025.
The project, which had been halted two weeks ago due to heavy traffic congestion and security concerns, is part of ongoing maintenance efforts to improve the bridge’s structural integrity. The earlier suspension followed widespread complaints from motorists, some of whom spent over two hours on short trips, as well as reports of traffic robbers targeting stranded drivers.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the restart on Tuesday, urging Lagosians to exercise patience. He assured that a revised traffic management plan has been designed to ease movement around the work zone and enable faster completion of the project.
Traffic Advisory Authorities disclosed that traffic flow will be largely unaffected except within the immediate construction zone, where one lane of the three-lane carriageway will remain open. Vehicles will be diverted into a single lane about 50 metres before the repair site and regain full access shortly afterward.
For motorists coming from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Toll Gate en route Oshodi or Victoria Island, the Ojota Slip Road will connect them to Ikorodu Road inward Anthony, leading to Oshodi. Those heading to Victoria Island can either continue to Gbagada through Town Planning Way and connect the Third Mainland Bridge, or proceed via Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge.
Drivers from Ikeja and its environs are advised to pass through Maryland to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, accessing Eko Bridge to Outer Marina, or connect Ikorodu Road by Anthony Taxi Park towards Oshodi.
Osiyemi stressed that the partial closure is unavoidable, describing it as a vital step in the bridge’s maintenance programme. He appealed for the cooperation of motorists, adding that the government is committed to minimising disruptions while ensuring safety and timely delivery.
