State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Lagos, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa has commended the corps members who were made Corps Liaison Officers of the Local Government Areas at the NYSC Lagos State Secretariat, Surulere.
Commending the corps members for their leadership qualities which necessitated their selection for the role, the State Coordinator, said the role of CLO is meant to be a link between corps members at the various Local Government Areas and NYSC officials.
According to her, they are to give the NYSC feedback and aid them in being knowledgeable about the issues affecting the Local Government. She urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through diligence and integrity.
Also speaking at the meeting, Assistant Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring branch, Mrs Itohan Ehimwema, stated that the Corps Liaison Officer is the highest ranking corps member at any Local Government, who helps to build and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the Local Government and the NYSC.
She listed out some core functions of the role; such as assisting the Local Government Inspectors in carrying out their duties, coordinating CDS meetings, assisting with the registration of new corps members, monitoring and reporting activities of corps members.
She also outlined some benefits of the role, such as more recognition, networking opportunities and development of new skills.
She stressed the need for Liaison officers to maintain neutrality in their dealings and to stay away from all forms of corrupt practices which are inimical to the image of the scheme. Liaison officers are to drop any behaviour or habits that would reflect badly upon themselves and the NYSC.
