Nigerian Institute of Water Engineers Seeks Collaboration With Lagos Water Corporation
The Nigerian Institute of Water Engineers (NIWE) has reinforced its commitment to fostering collaborations and repositioning the water sector for enhancements and growth.
This was revealed when a delegation of NIWE’s executive members paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director (MD) of Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani on Tuesday.
While congratulating Tijani on his recent appointment, the delegation led by the institution’s president, Engr. Yunusa Ibraheem said that the visit was aimed at exploring new opportunities for collaborations between the corporation and the institution.
In a statement by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of the corporation, Mrs. Kehinde Fashola, the NIWE’s president stated that his visit was also an opportunity to recruit new members from the water corporation’s school of efficient engineers into the professional body.
Expressing his optimism that the new leadership of Engr. Tijani would spearhead improvements in the supply of potable water to Lagosians, Engr. Ibraheem also said that the mission of the professional body is centred on helping to tackle water shortage in the state.
Highlighting the need for cooperation between Lagos Water Corporation and professional bodies like the NIWE Ibraheem said that the coming together would address challenges faced by the water sector in Nigeria.
As he put it, “Lagos Water Corporation plays the fundamental function of ensuring equitable access to potable water across Lagos State, and fostering collaborations within the water sector would play a pivotal role in ensuring this mandate does not go unfulfilled.”
Reacting Engr. Tijani expressed his approval over the institution’s undertaking to foster collaboration within the water industry. He acknowledged the valuable contributions of water engineers towards developing efficient water supply systems that can provide safe drinking water for Lagosians and optimizing water resource utilization.
He assured the body of the corporation’s willingness to partner with the institution, stating that he foresees a beneficial alliance with the body.
The delegation during the visit, presented Engr. Tijani with an award of excellence, in recognition of his commitment towards achieving sustainable water solutions for Lagosians.
The Executive Director (operations), Engr. Helen Taiwo thanked the institution for the courtesy visit, lauding the institution for seeking to enhance the growth of the water industry.
She revealed that she has been a member of the institution for many years now, and underscored the importance of such an institution to the growth of the water engineering profession and the water industry as a whole. She promised continued support for the welfare and advancements of the institute’s interest.
With a better understanding between both parties and a clearer path to follow for the development of the water sector, the meeting ended on a good note, with both the Lagos Water Corporation and NIWE committing to continued cooperation.
The Lagos Water Corporation under the leadership of Engr.
