No fewer than 100 Persons With Disabilities (Pwds) in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) benefitted from the Covid-19 Response Project organised by Estrategico Consult, Stanforte Edge and Access Bank.

The event which was facilitated by the council leader, Hon. Remy Shittu Remy was held in the council Secretariat with strict adherence to social distancing and other physical measures against the spread of the virus.

According the project lead of Estategico Consult, Oluwaseyi Sodola, the alarming rate at which Covid-19 cases are being recorded prompted the body to come together and educate a section of the society especially the physically challenged people on how to effectively play their parts in fighting against the virus.

Sodola said the people living with disabilities were targeted with the palliatives since they were the disadvantaged ones who suffered the effects of the Covid-19 most as they could not vend for themselves during the pandemic.

“We realised that they can’t do the normal things they did for living, that is why we’ve come together to educate them on how they can play their parts in defeating Covid-19 by observing all preventive measures by themselves or with the help of those around them. We also support them with relief items as a way of contributing our own quota to their welfare as well as fighting against the spread of the virus in the community,” he said.

Commending the organisers, the council Chairman, Hon. Shamsudeen Olaleye who was represented by the council Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Olojede, said donation of relief packages especially to the physically challenged people could never be too much at this trying times.

He said: “We have been open to NGOs to assist the government. This gesture, as displayed by the organisers, is a positive one especially by focusing mainly on the PWDs. We hope this will inspire other NGOs to see that from the little they have they should be willing to give back to the community.”

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the chairman of PWDs in Isolo LCDA, Mr. Yusuf Agbabiaka, appreciated the organisers of the programme, disclosing that it was the first time the physically challenged people in the council area would receive such support from corporate bodies since the virus broke out. Items in the stimulus package included beans, garri, rice, seasoning, noodles, facemask among others.
