As public primary schools across Ikorodu Division resumed for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, the Education Secretary of the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Ikorodu, Alhaji Taiwo Abiodun Odumbo, embarked on a comprehensive monitoring tour to ensure a smooth and effective start to academic activities.

The monitoring exercise covered several schools within the division, where the Education Secretary assessed teacher attendance, pupil turnout, learning conditions, and compliance with academic standards.

During the visits, Alhaji Odumbo emphasised the effective utilisation of the Hope Edu Textbooks, a Lagos State Government initiative distributed to all public primary schools. The textbooks, which cover Basic One to Basic Six, are designed to strengthen curriculum delivery and guarantee access to quality learning materials for every pupil.

In addition to monitoring school resumption, the Education Secretary also supervised the official take-off of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) training programme across the LGEA.

TaRL is an innovative, Africa-developed instructional approach focused on diagnosing learning levels and supporting upper primary pupils who are lagging behind in foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

“By tailoring instruction to each learner’s current level, TaRL aims to bridge learning gaps and better prepare pupils for a successful transition to secondary education,” he said.

Alhaji Odumbo disclosed that Ikorodu is one of only six LGEAs selected for the pilot phase of the initiative in Lagos State.

He explained that the eight-day training programme is being closely supervised by Dr. Umar, the designated TaRL representative for Ikorodu, to ensure quality delivery, proper implementation, and measurable learning outcomes.

He further noted that the early deployment of the programme reflects the commitment of the Ikorodu LGEA to innovation, educational equity, and excellence.

“This proactive start to the term demonstrates our dedication to ensuring that no child is left behind,” he stated.

The monitoring exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State education authorities to strengthen foundational learning and improve overall educational outcomes across public schools.
