Motilola Akinlami Opens Up on Divorce

Nollywood actress Motilola Akinlami has revealed that she publicly announced her divorce after being threatened by a blogger who planned to expose her marital status.

In a candid interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Motilola shared that the blogger accused her of “living a lie” and pressured her into revealing details about her private life. Determined not to be blackmailed or shamed into silence, she decided to take control of the narrative by speaking out herself.

The actress also addressed the stigma that often surrounds women who experience failed marriages. She emphasized that no woman enters a marriage with the intention of leaving it, explaining that most women commit to marriage with the sincere hope of building a lifelong partnership.

Motilola urged the public to show more compassion and understanding, rather than passing judgment on women whose marriages don’t succeed. She called for an end to the social pressures and criticism that many women face during and after divorce.

She said, “Why did I announce my divorce? There was a blog at that time, the blogger messaged me and said you live in disguise, and I will expose it. I know that you have left your marriage. So, I was like, you want to blackmail me at this point? When I have got nothing else to lose, I will post it.

“There is one guy that is deceiving you, there is one man somewhere. I don’t know, I think I need to ask you people, do people think people go into marriages hoping to leave? I think they think there is a a new couple of women out there who go into marriage with the intention of leaving. So make it make sense.

“Except a woman is clinically insãne, no woman will ever go into a marriage with the intention of leaving. You go because you want forever”.
