Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has once again spoken about the controversies surrounding his son’s career challenges and untimely death.
In a recent interview with Sunday Scoop, Aloba insisted that Mohbad suffered bullying during his lifetime, contradicting the claims of former Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley, who has repeatedly denied any involvement in the singer’s ordeals.
Naira Marley had earlier granted an interview where he stated that his role was only to guide Mohbad, especially after discovering that the late singer had allegedly begun experimenting with illicit substances.
Sharing his personal experience, Mohbad’s father recalled visiting Naira Marley in an attempt to resolve some of the issues his son had raised. However, he claimed that what he observed during the visit convinced him that Mohbad had indeed suffered mistreatment.
According to Aloba, one of Marley’s close associates privately informed him that the label boss physically assaulted his son.
“When we went to see him to apologise, he wasn’t even speaking respectfully,” Aloba said. “People assume I went there to collect money, but life is beyond just what I want to eat.”
Addressing allegations that Mohbad used unfamiliar accounts for financial transactions, Aloba confirmed that the situation did exist.
He explained that Marley had once complained that Mohbad was receiving funds through an account not registered in his name. Aloba admitted he also noticed the same pattern, as some money sent to him by his son often came from unknown sources.
“I warned him that anything he wanted to give me should come from his own account,” he said, emphasising that this was the extent of his involvement in the matter.
