Nigerian rapper Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has called on the Lagos State Police Command to intensify its investigation into the controversial death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, aka Mohbad.

In a video broadcast on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, Naira Marley denied any involvement in the late singer’s death, while urging the police to re-arrest him, his associate Samson Balogun (popularly called Samlarry), and all others previously accused in the case. He also appealed for a trustworthy officer to be assigned to lead the investigation.

“I came back to Nigeria to support the police because I can see fingers pointing our ways. So I had to come back so that they can actually check whoever is responsible so that he (Mohbad) can get justice,” he said.

Recounting his detention, he added: “I was in Panti for two months. After I came out, I was fighting for my passport, they held my passport. It’s okay to question me, but there’s no reason to detain me. I haven’t seen him for over a year. There was a conspiracy and gang-up to keep me there… If you ask me, I will tell the Police to arrest everybody again. Put an officer we can trust in charge.”

The rapper further disclosed that he had reached an agreement with Mohbad’s lawyer to ensure the singer’s royalties are handed over to whichever member of his family the court appoints to oversee his estate.

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances. His former record label boss, Naira Marley, and Samlarry were fingered in his death, leading to their detention at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for two months before being released on bail.

Mohbad’s childhood friend, Owodunni Ibrahim, aka Prime Boy, was also arrested but later granted bail. In a July 2025 interview with activist VeryDarkMan, Prime Boy denied reports that he fought with Mohbad or inflicted injuries on him during their last outing at the D’General Bitters Ikorodu show on September 10, 2023.

Meanwhile, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered the injection allegedly linked to Mohbad’s death, was also arrested.

During an inquest, the Lagos State Coroner’s Court ruled that the decomposed state of Mohbad’s body made it impossible to determine a definitive cause of death. However, Magistrate C.A. Shotobi concluded that the death was connected to medical negligence rather than foul play.

The court has since ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prosecute the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe.
