Men On Trial For Stealing Achohol Drinks Worth N10m

Three men have been arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cartons of achohol drinks worth N10,000,000.
Standing as Prosecutor was Inspector John Iberedem who mentioned that the stolen items belong to one Nneka Moses – the complainant.
Iberedem disclosed the suspects as: Saheed Olayinka, 32, Larry Olatuberu, 30, and Francis Ezema, 27.
According to him, Olayinka and Olatuberu are on trial for conspiracy and stealing while the third accused, Ezema, is charged for receiving and obtaining stolen property.
They all pleaded not guilty.
Nevertheless, Iberedem stated that Olayinka and Olatuberu commited the act sometime in 2023 at the complainant’s shop situated in Balogun Market, Masalashi Alhaja in Agege Lagos.
The prosecutor submitted that the gang stole cartons of Sieman Schnapps, Action Bitters, Chelsea Dry Gin, Orijin Bitters and Black Woods Drinks.
“Ezema on his own dishonesty received the items into his shop at Ipodo Market, Ikeja, knowing fully well they were stolen,” said the prosecutor.
“The offences contravene Section 287, 328 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
He added, “Section 328 stipulates 14 years imprisonment on anyone caught receiving a stolen property “.
The Magistrate, Ejiro Kubenije, granted the suspects bail in the sum of N400,000 each with two sureties like sum.
Kubenije ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should proof valid tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till August 20.
