The Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ijanikin, has joined Safe Blood Project in Nigeria.
The World Health Organisation has recommended meeting the safe blood requirements of at least 2,000,000 units in Nigeria.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution Prof. Dayo Ejiwunmi said the private institution has taken interest in organising a voluntary blood donation drive to contribute towards achieving the 2,000,000 units goal.
He said the institution, to promote volunteers in the cause, has partnered with Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service.
Ejiwunmi noted that as an institution of learning, they are making efforts to address social issues, engender positive behavioural change and encourage students to research blood and blood products in the system.
He said the donation would help save countless unidentified lives as its availability in all medical institutions will be guaranteed and urged every individual to join hands in advocating for blood donation as it can one day save a close relative, friend or important person to us.
