A trial date is set against a suspect, Okechukwu Nwosu, who was accused of stealing the sum of N26,000,000 through forgery at his workplace.
Nwosu was initially arraigned on Monday at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, in a sitting presided by Magistate Oluwatosin Erinle who adjourned the case till July 30 for trial.
Prior to the Magistrate adjourning the case, the prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, said that the 49-year-old suspect, who was employed as a sales representative of Embassy Pharmaceutical, Idumota, Lagos is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and stealing, as preferred against him by the police.
Osuji said that that the defendant and others at large, on January 26, 2024, forged the stamp and receipt of the firm in carrying out the theft act.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287, 365 (3) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Erinle then granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties should be a blood relation to the suspect and be gainfully employed. Erinle also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of six months bank statement.
