Man On Trial Over Alleged Theft, Assault On Wife

One Sannii Mubarak has been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing his wife’s properties alongside cases of assault on her.

30-year-old Mubarak was brought before the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court where he was accused of the act by Police Prosecutor, Aminu Isaac, which claimed that the defendant battered his wife and stole the items amounting to N530,000.

Isaac held that suspect, who is facing a four-count- charge of assault, threat to life, stealing and wilful damage, commited the offence on November 12 at Mini Shawarma Junction in Radio area, Ikorodu.

Despite Mubarak’s non guilty plea, the prosecutor maintained that he threatened to harm his wife, one Mistura Baruwa, the complainant and stole a 6kg and 3kg cooking gas cylinders, a 20000W power bank, and a carton of frozen chicken, turkey, and fried cow meat, all valued at N180,000.

In addition, the litigant was also said to have damaged an iPhone XR belonging to the complainant, valued at N350,000.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 56, 172, 287, and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Bola Sonuga, granted the defendant a N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum.

Sonuga adjourned the case until December 4.
