Magistate Patrick Nwaka who presided over the case sentenced Adedeji, an Uber driver, to eighth-year jail term on two counts of attempted fraud.

Subsequently, the defendant opted to file for a plea bargain agreement, leading to the amendment of the charges.

At the court, the convict was said to have attempted the act on April 16, 2024, at the Oshodi Oke area of Lagos on the POS operator, Titilope Adeyemi. He fraudulently demanded to withdraw the sum of N30,000, then dishonestly reducing the figure to N3,000 when entering his ATM Card PIN to steal the sum of N27,000, as submitted by the Prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen.

Azeez pleaded guilty.

Nurudeen then stated that the act contravened Section 314(1) and 287(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. He also urged the court to impose the full extent of the plea bargain agreed upon by the defendant.

Consequently, Magistrate Nwaka found Azeez guilty of the charges and pronounced an eighth-year jail term on him, effective from the day of remand to be served concurrently.

The court also made reminisce of a proceeding in March which involved one James Akomolafe and Olaoluwa Ogbere who allegedly stole from multiple POS operators under pretence.

The defendants were said to have made their way to Mile 12 market in Ketu under the pretence of checking their account balance at a POS stand.

They distracted the attention of the operator, swapped the machines with their own, and left for an unknown location, stealing the sum of N662,000 from the account.
