A man accused of sexually assaulting his seven-year-old daughter has been arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The 53-year-old suspect, Bitrus Daniyan, on Thursday, was brought before the court and was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre by the Presiding Magistrate, Ejiro Kubenije.
Kubenije ordered that the case file should be sent to the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till October 15.
Before the adjournment, the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, stated that the defendant is facing a charge of indecent sexual assault.
Iberedem told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in June at Military Zone C, Nominee Estate, Ajah, Lagos by inserting his finger into the her daughter’s private part.
According to him, Daniyan was caught by neighbours and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor further stated that the offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
According to findings, Section 261 stipulates life imprisonment for indecent sexual assault of a minor.
