A suspect in a case of alleged sexual assault and child defilement has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correction Centre.
The accused, Godwin Uzodinma, on Wednesday, was arraigned before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court where he faced allegations of Defiling an 11-year-old girl.
Uzodinma, was arraigned on a two count of sexual assault by penetration and defilement, preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.
Prosecution Counsel, Bukola Okeowo, told the sitting that thedefendant committed the offences sometime in 2017 and 2019, at Shogunle Street in Ikeja.
Okeowo uttered that the defendant had an unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim, leading to her defilement.
According to her, Uzodinma inserted his organ into the minor’s anus. She further said that the act is a violation of Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to reports, that Sections 137 and 261 attract life imprisonment respectively, if found guilty.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Thereafter, the Presiding Judge, Rahman Oshodi, granted him bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Oshodi ordered that the two sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the state.
He said the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the court registrar and the defendant should submit his International Passport to the court.
The case was adjourned till February 19, 2025
