Man Faces Prosecution Over Property Damage, Theft

A suspect, Emmanuel Ogu, has been billed for trial following an alleged act of damaging a vehicle part belonging to a complainant in Lagos.

Ogu, at the Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday was also accused of theft in the sum of N300,000 from the plaintiff identified as Ugochukwu Edeh.

Police Prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the sitting that the suspect, 42-years-old, is facing a two-count charge of wilful damage and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Uche held that the accused commited the offence on January 3 at Abule Oshun area, Ojo Lagos.

The Prosecutor claimed that the defendant obtained the sum from Edeh promising to make repairs on his Mercedes gear box.

However, the suspect was said to have further damaged the car part and fled with the money, thus, contravening the provisions of sections 168 and 399 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Ogu pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Magistrate, Lateef Layeni, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till March 3.
