Man Allegedly Steals N8.3M Jewelry, Faces Prosecution

A suspect, Mamuda Zakare, has been held for trial over an alleged theft of jewelry valued at N8,300,0000.

Zakare, 30, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on theft and conduct likely to breach peace.

The suspect pleaded not guilty during his arraignment at the Ojo Magistrates’ Court.

However, the prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, said that the accused committed the offences on January 25 at the Alaba Rago market area in Ojo, Lagos.

Uche mentioned that Zakare skipped waybilling three cartons of jewelries belonging to one Tasiu Aliu – the complainant.

The Prosecutor added that the offences contravened the provisions of Section 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Presiding Magistrate, Kayode Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 14.
