LWC Trains Newly Promoted Officers on Leadership
As part of Lagos Water Corporation’s commitment to nurturing talent within the organisation and ensuring the success of its employees, the corporation has held a comprehensive leadership training program to equip recently promoted officers.
The training was held at the Lagos Water Corporation Board room, Headquarters, Ijora.
The training program, which was segmented into three highly informative sessions, featured speakers who shared invaluable insights on leadership, management, and organizational growth.
The training program kicked off with a dynamic session on leadership in challenging times at the corporation’s boardroom.
Officers were welcomed by Lagos Water Corporation’s Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, who congratulated the officers on their new positions and also emphasized how pleasurable it is to advance to a new role and a new position.
He remarked on the importance of strong leadership within an organization, owning that it has always remained a crucial condition for an organization’s success.
The keynote speaker for the first session was Dr. Aina Olugbemiga, the Permanent Secretary of the Parastatal Monitoring Office, who is also a distinguished leadership expert known for leadership and management in health.
Dr. Aina captivated the audience with insights on fostering a culture of innovation, embracing change, and seizing opportunities in a competitive market. He encouraged employees of the corporation to think creatively and solve problems innovatively, as this would lead to more effective solutions and a competitive edge.
He also highlighted the need to empower team members through the delegation of duties. Aina explained that giving them opportunities to take on more responsibilities and grow in their roles would boost their morale and job satisfaction. He employed the use of real-life scenarios to support the points made, making them relatable and engaging for the audience.
The second session, ‘Strategies for Success,’ which was anchored by the Executive Director Operations, Engr. Helen Taiwo, was also impactful. She shared her expertise on team building, performance management, and the importance of team members’ motivation. She emphasized the need for everyone to update their skill sets, noting that skills become outdated quickly in today’s world, but continuous improvement ensures that we can adapt to evolving technologies and job requirements.
The final session, ‘Roles and Responsibilities,’ which was led by the Head Admin and HR, Mr. Sheriff Akinpelu, laid more emphasis on the functions and duties of the newly promoted officers. He spoke on managing and overseeing team members, assigning tasks, providing feedback, and evaluating performance management, and the importance of team members’ motivation. He also urged the officers to follow company policies, regulations, and uphold ethical standards to promote a healthy work environment.
In his final words, the MD owned that the training program will not only equip recently promoted officers with enhanced leadership and management skills but is destined to foster a sense of unity and purpose within the organization.
