The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leader, Ejigbo LCDA, Jide Ogunmefun, has warned the youths in the local council area and Lagos State as a whole to shun all violent acts that may further worsen the situation of the state.
Ogunmefun urged them to engage themselves in productive activities during the two weeks extension of the lockdown in the state rather than causing troubles in the community.
While appreciating the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for announcing to feed 100,000 youths in Lagos on daily basis, the Youth Leader assured the youths in Ejigbo of getting them their own portions when the food is ready for distribution.
The state governor has announced that his government is opening food kitchens in all the local councils in the State with a target to provide one meal per day to 100,000 youths.
Sanwo-Olu also announced unconditional cash transfer of undisclosed amount to 250,000 vulnerable residents and economically challenged persons who have identification numbers with Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
In a statement on Wednesday, Ogunmefun said: “We cannot deny the present hardship that Lagosians are encountering as a result of the current unavoidable lockdown but we know it’s a worthwhile sacrifice to slow down the spread of the Covid-19, while government keeps sensitising the people and combating existing cases.
“Thankfully, the government is recording success in the area of treatment and number of recoveries.
“May I, however, appeal to our youths to shun violence, robbery and thuggery, no matter how tempting it may appear at the moment.
“We must not forget that those who may be affected by our negative acts are from amongst us and not even the ruling class. We must use this season as profitably as possible by engaging our minds productively.
“I urge our youths who may have challenge in providing foods for themselves in this difficult time to take advantage of the Lagos State feeding programme for the youths (we shall notify you of closest centres to you as soon as practicable).
“We cannot deny that we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death and that the government, like the citizens, has never experienced what we are currently faced with.
“These challenges notwithstanding, we must commend the Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Bello Obe, for bracing up to the current challenge while we also appeal to the people to maintain law and order as nothing can be achieved in a chaotic environment.”
