LIRS Extends Tax Filing Deadline Again to April 21
Taxpayers in Lagos have been granted extra time to meet their annual tax obligations, as the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) pushed the deadline for filing individual income tax returns to April 21, 2026.
The new date follows an earlier extension to April 14, reflecting growing pressure on the system as thousands of residents rushed to comply. According to the agency, the decision was driven by a sharp spike in activity on its eTax platform, which saw heavy traffic from last-minute filers.
In a statement signed by Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, LIRS commended taxpayers for their increasing level of compliance, noting that the extension is aimed at ensuring no one is left out due to technical or timing constraints.
“This additional window is in response to the overwhelming participation and is designed to give taxpayers sufficient time to complete accurate submissions,” the agency stated, urging residents to take full advantage of what it described as a final grace period.
Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all filings must be completed exclusively through the official eTax portal, stressing that it remains the only approved channel for submission.
The agency also encouraged individuals needing support to reach out through its official communication lines or visit designated LIRS offices across the state.
While the extension offers breathing room, authorities maintain that filing annual tax returns remains a legal obligation—one that residents are expected to fulfil before the new April 21 deadline
