The authority of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Lagos has sealed off a newly constructed petroleum liquid gas station located at 6b, Oluyeye Street in Mafoluku as a result of non- compliance with the Environmental/Public health protocols by the gas station.
The Head of Department (HOD) of the Environmental Services of the Local Government Sanitarian, Akeem Adeoye said the action was taken in the interest of public health and safety as the supervisor of the station was unable provide some vital documents in regards to the approval of the premises.
The HOD therefore warned liquid petroleum gas retailers in the local government area to comply with regulations and safety precautions which include obtaining valid documents, possession of approved fire extinguisher, spacious environment to avoid combustion, and putting other vital measures in place in order to save the community from fire incident.
He said the Local Government Environmental Services would soon be out to prosecute those who have turned the environment to illegal markets, automobile workshops, and parks.
He appealed to people to stop converting residential buildings in the community into commercial outlets such as gas stations, saying most of them negate the safety and well-being of the people.
He enjoined everyone to maintain a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment “especially as we move into the rainy season and people should not hesitate to report anyone or group of people who violates the environmental regulations to the local government authority.”
He informed that Hon. Idris Bolaji Muse Ariyoh led administration places high premium on the security and health of the residents.
Hon. Yussuf Adesanya, Special Adviser on Environment and Hon. Rasheed Obasa, Leader Oshodi-Isolo LG were part of those who inspected the gas station on behalf of the local government.
