LG Chair, Arewa Leaders Meet Over Okada Rider’s Killing

The chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Lagos, today, September 2, 2025, met with leaders of the Arewa community following the tragic death of a commercial motorcyclist, allegedly shot by a police officer.

During the dialogue, the council boss described the killing as both “unfortunate and avoidable”, stressing that the incident should never have occurred. He assured the Arewa leaders of his administration’s commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of all residents within the local government.

The meeting, convened at the council secretariat, was aimed at calming tensions and preventing possible unrest. Arewa representatives expressed grief over the loss, calling for a transparent investigation and accountability from security agencies.

Community leaders also urged the local authority to facilitate dialogue between residents and security operatives to avert future tragedies, while emphasizing the need for respect and safety in law enforcement operations.

The LG chairman promised to escalate the matter to the relevant state authorities and pledged ongoing engagement with the Arewa community to restore confidence.
