President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proposed that each local government in the federation should manage its resources and pay the wages of its workers.

He said this in his national broadcast to mark June 12 Democracy Day early this morning.

He said, “It is my personal belief that each local government should manage its resources and be responsible for its obligations, including wages that are first line charges. I also believe that the State Governor should not be held liable if any local government is unable to pay salaries since we do not touch a kobo of their money. ”

The president said that his government would soon send an executive bill to the National Assembly on the proposed minimum wage as he urged the Joint Organised Labour to always dialogue instead of embarking on strike.

Tinubu stated that the proposed bill is subject to change the minimum wage after five years as the case may be.

He called on all Nigerians to embrace peace and allow democracy to work.

President Tinubu said that he understands the pains the ongoing economic reform had brought upon the citizens, however, he said the path must be taken to build a strong foundation for the country.

Tinubu went on memory lane when he reeled out men and women, living and dead who paid the price to ensure present democracy. He said he was one of those who fought against totalitarian government and now a a beneficiary of the struggle.
