Lagos-based lawyer Barrister Chinwe Onuoha has been arrested by the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) for allegedly forging documents to secure a loan from the Bank of Industry.

The arrest took place on January 22, 2025, in Ikorodu, Lagos, after Onuoha reportedly refused to honor invitations to address the forgery allegations.

Onuoha is accused of falsifying a lease agreement for a property in Teachers Estate, Ikorodu, which she submitted to the Bank of Industry in an attempt to obtain a loan for her pure water production business.

SFU officers tracked down the lawyer and apprehended her around 7:30 PM.

Witnesses at the scene of the arrest reported that Onuoha tried to evade arrest by attempting to enter the court premises, but security personnel at the gate prevented her from doing so.

Confirming the arrest, Commissioner of Police Ayo Omodeinde stated that the SFU received the forgery complaint in June 2024.

He mentioned that Onuoha is currently in custody for interrogation, and the case is under investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the matter.

“The lawyer was alleged to have forged the Lease Agreement between her and her landlady and also forged the signature of her Landlady Ngozi Uzoma and a witness named Titilayo Opeyemi and submitted the said forged lease Agreement with the forged signatures to the Bank of Industry to borrow money.”
