Lawmakers Condemn DSS’ Invasion At Lagos Assembly
By Felix Kuyinu
Members at the Lagos House of Assembly have deplored the Department of the State Services, DSS, for causing disorder at the premises of the Assembly Complex in Alausa Ikeja.
The security agency, heavily armed, deprived the lawmakers entry into the premises. Kehinde Joseph, who represents Alimosho constituency 02, termed the incident as an assault on the legislators and letdown of democracy.
Thirty-Six of the 40 lawmakers, who pledged support for the Speaker of the House, Mojisola Meranda, said that whosoever is dissatisfied with the new leadership at the Complex should approach the court for redress.
The lawmakers through the Acting Clerk of the House, Taiwo Ottuh, claimed that a letter of a pending lawsuit by the former Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was presented to them by the state’s High Court.
While requesting for an explanation on the invasion, the state legislature adjourned the next plenary indefinitely.
