LASUSTECH, BAT Ideological Group Move to Establish School of Politics and Policies
A delegation of the BAT Ideological Group has met with the management of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) over plans to establish a School of Politics and Policies within the institution.
The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, alongside other principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abiodun Denloye; Registrar, Mr David Ogungbe; Bursar, Mr Oki Olashile; and Dean, College of Environmental Design and Technology, Professor Oladipo Dare-Abel.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader of the delegation, Honourable Atoyebi, disclosed that a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of a School of Politics and Policies was formally presented to the university. He said the institute is designed to serve as a national hub for ideological training, political leadership development, and governance studies.
According to him, both parties at the meeting resolved to commence academic and professional activities of the institute within the next two to three months.
Honourable Atoyebi further revealed that LASUSTECH has provided a temporary facility to enable the immediate take-off of the institute, pending the construction of a purpose-built permanent structure that will reflect the stature, vision, and national significance of the project.
He explained that the proposed BAT Institute of Politics and Policies is conceived as a strategic response to the leadership deficit confronting Nigeria’s political system. The institute is expected to offer structured academic programmes at diploma, master’s, and doctoral levels, alongside professional certifications, fellowship opportunities, and ideological grooming for emerging and established political actors.
Describing the initiative as a historic milestone, Atoyebi noted that the institute would be the first university-based political institution in Nigeria to be named after a sitting President. He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents “not merely a political figure, but an institution of leadership, ideology, and governance whose political philosophy warrants academic interrogation and institutional preservation.”
He commended the management of LASUSTECH for what he described as visionary leadership and institutional courage in aligning with a project aimed at shaping the next generation of Nigerian leaders. He also acknowledged members of the BAT Ideological Group for their commitment to promoting ideological clarity, political education, and democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
