LASUBEB and British Council Launch English Proficiency Training for Lagos Teachers”

Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) in collaboration with the British Council inaugurates the Strengthening Teachers’ English Proficiency Training.

 

The ceremony marks the beginning of an initiative to improve the classroom communication abilities of 2,000 primary school teachers across Lagos State.

 

Honourable Jamiu Alli-Balogun praised the Lagos State Government’s commitment to innovative educational initiatives, highlighting their alignment with global best practices. He emphasized the state’s dedication to upgrading all Lagos State Colleges of Education to university standards. “In Lagos State, we are setting the pace for others to follow,” he stated.

Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, Chairman of LASUBEB, underscored the importance of the partnership with the British Council. “This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to teacher development and excellence in education,” he said.

 

The event saw the attendance of numerous dignitaries, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education; Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, Chairman of LASUBEB ,Lucy Pearson, Country Director of the British Council, represented by Mr. Chikodi; Dr. Fwanshishak and Dr. Albert from the British Council; and 40 facilitators.

 

Representatives from the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), Education Secretaries from the 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), and participating teachers also graced the occasion.

 

The ceremony showcased the Lagos State Government’s commitment to public-private partnerships in the development of basic education. The initiative is seen as a significant step forward in equipping teachers with the necessary skills to deliver high-quality education, thus benefiting the future generations of Lagos State   .
