LASU Matriculates 1500 Diploma Students

– VC, LASU as University matriculates 1,500 Diploma students

The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM has reiterated that the University remains a student-centered institution, a place for grooming generational and great leaders as well as an institution that is focused on character development of its students.

Professor Olatunji-Bello, ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olufunso Omobitan, disclosed this while delivering her address at the well attended matriculation ceremony of Diploma students admitted for the 2022/2023 Academic Session held on Monday, 7th August 2023 at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, main campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The Professor of Physiology advised the newly admitted diploma students to strive for academic excellence in all they do, abide by the rules and regulations of the University and continue to demonstrate commitment to their studies.

She also enjoined the new students to constantly attend lectures, shun deviant behaviors, avoid indecent dressing, stay away from examination malpractices, shun corrupt practices, hooliganism and other vices that could expose them to danger.

The Director, LASU Consult Limited, Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, in his speech informed that the matriculation ceremony was the first organized for Diploma students since the incorporation of LASU Consult Ltd. by the University in 2019.
Also, he added that the consult manages twenty-five (25) diploma programmes across the institution.

Prof. Bakare advised the students not to be disenchanted by societal challenges and to do what is right at all times.
“I will advise you not to lose hope in whatever turn history takes, but do not allow history to take a turn without your active and result oriented academic participation” he stated.

Principal Assistant Registrar and Secretary, LASU Consult Ltd., Mr. Akeem Salau, in his welcome address, appreciated the Vice Chancellor, who is also the Chairman, Board of Directors, LASU Consult, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM and the board members for aiding the smooth running of the consult.

He also implored the students not to feel inferior because they are equally as important as the students on regular programme.

Motivational talk was delivered by Mr. Olushola Olumide, from the Bursary Department of the University on *”Maximizing Your Potentials*”.
He urged the students to discover, develop and deploy themselves in order to maximize their potentials.

The Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU was in charge of the proceedings as he equally administered the matriculation pledge on the students, while representatives from the different Faculties signed the Matriculation Register on behalf of other students.

Principal Officers at the event include Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, the Bursar, Mr. Said Olayinka, represented by Mr. David Ogunde and Mr. Hamid Okunnu who represented the University Librarian, Dr. Layi Adebayo.

Members of the Board of LASU Consult, who are equally members of the LASU Governing Council, Barrister Adebayo Akinsanya and Mrs. Mojisola Taiwo were present at the event as well as Barrister Saheed Matimiloju who represented the Secretary of the LASU Consult, Deputy Registrar, Legal unit, Mrs. Olajumoke Boyejo.

The Deputy Registrar (VCO), Dr. Lateef Shekoni, Special Assistant to the VC, Dr. Lateef Salami and the Assistant Director, LASU Consult, Dr. Bashir Animashaun attended the ceremony.

Also in attendance at the matriculation ceremony were Deans of Faculty of Arts, Engineering, Communication & Media Studies, Education, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Students’ Affairs and School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, staff members of the University, students, parents, guardians and well-wishers.
