The Lagos State University (LASU) has been ranked as the best university in Sub-Saharan Africa in the 2024 Universitas Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric World University Rankings.
This accolade also solidifies LASU’s position as the best university in Nigeria for the third consecutive year.
The announcement was made on Thursday, December 12, 2024, through a live broadcast from the Universidade São Paulo by the global ranking body.
LASU climbed from 25th to 23rd place among African universities and from 761st to 709th globally, marking significant progress in the sustainability-focused ranking system, which assessed 1,477 institutions across 95 countries.
This achievement comes shortly after LASU’s recognition in the Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa Universities Ranking, where it was named the best state university in Nigeria, the second-best public university, the fourth-best overall, and the 30th best university in Africa.
LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed her gratitude to the university community for their collective efforts and commended the Lagos State Government for its continued support.
She assured stakeholders that her administration remains committed to driving the institution to even greater heights.
“This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability and excellence. We will continue to provide impactful leadership to achieve our shared vision,” Prof. Olatunji-Bello said.
LASU also achieved notable successes earlier in the year, emerging as the second most subscribed university in Nigeria by admission seekers in the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
The university is recognized for being the most digitally advanced state university in Nigeria and the first-choice state institution in the AD Scientific Index Ranking.
With its growing reputation, LASU continues to set the standard for academic and infrastructural excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
