The Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development in the Lagos State University, LASU, is set to embark on a sensitization program for a proper motor park management in the state.
The centre will involve stakeholders in the state transport sector to address the challenges facing motor park activities in the metropolis.
Emphasizing on the anomalies in motor parks in Lagos and it’s environmental impact, the centre hinted on finding sustainable solutions in alleviating the unpromising situation.
The centre disclosed that it is imperative to address issues such as parks managers’ attitudes, insecurity, waste management and traffic congestion, noting that the planned program is targeted towards seeking to contribute to the improvement of public transportation management in Nigeria and also to enhance the overall urban experience for commuters in Lagos State.
The LASU School of Transport and Logistics is also set to collaborate with key stakeholders in the state transport sector, including drivers, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, and the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, among others.
According to the LASU Centre, the program scheduled for May 22 and 23, 2024 will look into prohibiting occurrences of sale of food items, drinks, clothing alongside clumsy nature, and the existence of hoodlums who sometimes attempt to extort passengers, thereby, making lawful activities difficult for the passengers.
