The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, has restated the government’s strong stance against unauthorized construction of extensions and attachments on shops and buildings in any area of the State.
Oki emphasized this during an enforcement exercise aimed at removing extensions and attachments from shops and plazas within the Lagos Island Central Business District to enhance safety and orderliness in the markets and streets.
He highlighted the problems caused by these extensions, such as obstructing rescue operations during emergencies, like the incident at Mandilas building.
Oki warned shop and business owners to remove extensions immediately, as the removal exercise will continue throughout the state to curb lawlessness, especially in commercial areas like Lagos Island.
Additionally, he discouraged the dangerous practice of placing generators on rooftops and instructed for their immediate removal.
The joint enforcement exercise, involving various agencies, successfully removed extensions from shops in several areas, following the recommendations of the Dosunmu Fire Incident Committee led by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr Gbenga Oyerinde.
