The Lagos State Government has unveiled a new puzzle book titled Discover Lagos State, A History Puzzle Book (Volume One) as part of efforts to promote cultural education, historical awareness, and creativity among young people.
The launch event, held on Tuesday in Lagos, was organized by the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau, LASRAB.
Speaking at the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, described the book as an innovative educational tool that blends learning with entertainment while preserving the cultural heritage of Lagos.
“This book is a creative way to deepen pride in our identity as Lagosians. It is not just a publication, but a foundation for building historical consciousness in the next generation,” he said.
The 220 page book, structured in 55 chapters, is divided into two parts. The first focuses on the history, culture, and traditions of Lagos, while the second chronicles major events and timelines that have shaped the state.
Sanwo Olu praised the vision of former Governor Babatunde Fashola SAN, who established LASRAB in 2008 to institutionalize the preservation and documentation of Lagos’ history.
“The aim is to educate our children about where they come from, who paved the way, and the values that define us. This puzzle book answers that call by turning archival content into an engaging, hands-on experience,” he added.
He encouraged teachers, parents, and school administrators to adopt the book as a classroom resource and called on private sector partners to support its distribution across all local governments and council development areas in the state.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, described the initiative as a significant milestone in reintroducing history to younger generations.
“If we fail to tell our story in a language young people understand, we risk losing our identity. This book does more than preserve heritage — it repackages it for today’s learner,” Omotoso said.
He thanked Governor Sanwo Olu for his commitment to innovation and education, and commended all stakeholders involved in the production of the book.
Omotoso urged widespread adoption of the puzzle book to help young Lagosians understand and embrace their roots.
