LASG Convicts 27 Persons Residing Under Highway Bridges

The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of 27 suspected persons for unlawfully converting pedestrian bridges in the state to a place of abode.

The suspects, after their arrest, were arrainged and each sentenced to five months imprisonment, as revealed by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC.

The agency said the suspects were arraigned on charges bordering on breach of peace and unlawful conversion of government property.

Corps Marshal for LAGESC, Maj. Olaniyi Cole (retd.), made this disclosure at the agency’s command headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi saying, ‘‘the recent prosecution of these criminally-minded individuals is a testament to the resolve of KAI to ensure that there is total compliance to entrenching pedestrians’ safety across major highways in Lagos and we are determined to chase after them until the last person.’’

“The enforcement exercise were carried out by LAGESC on February 22, 2024 having raided on Oshodi, Ladipo, PWD, Bolade, and National pedestrian bridges”.

Cole noted that the offences were punishable under Section 168(1)(d) and Section 348(1) of the Criminals Laws of Lagos State 2015.
