LASG Grants Prerogative Pardon, Releases 56 Prisoners

Lagos State Government, LASG, has approved prerogative mercy to 56 inmates to decongest correctional centres in the state.

The state’s Attorney General and Commisioner of Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, stated on Thursday that the state’s Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu, gave the approval following it’s recommendation by the Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council, according to the Attorney, had a diligent research on the inmates informations as provided by the authorities at the correctional centres. He said that the Council noted the nature of the offences commited, the period of incarceration, behavioral conducts, age and health status of the freed inmates.

The CJ informed that the exercise is in pursuant to the provisions of Section 212 (1) (2) of the 1999 Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria (amended) and part of activities lined up for the state’s justice reform.
