The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has shut facilities in Lagos Island over noise pollution.
LASEPA stated that the enforcement was carried out at the establishments following persistent warnings which were neglected warnings by the state government which were not adhered to by the facility managements.
The acts by the firms: Mania Lounge, Voda Beach Club, Meadow Hall School and several others all at Victoria Island, Elegushi Beach, and Lekki Phase 1 were said to have persistently violated the provisions of the state’s environmental laws.
The General Manager of LASEMA, Babatunde Ajayi, said the operation was held to send an unequivocal message to residents in the state to shun disruption of community peace or endangerment of public health.
“Our environmental laws are not suggestions, they are mandatory requirements for all,” Ajayi said.
